The Wind Beneath Her Wings
Jane Swartz (19) will soon be taking to the skies and will be flying the Abraham Kriel Bambanani flag high…literally. On 9 April 2019, Jane received her “wings” and she is beaming with pride and gratitude. For the past five years, Jane has called the Kempton East Satellite house home. Described as a “problem child” in her early years, who misbehaved at school, Jane has grown to be a focused young woman and is a role model for her sisters at the house.
In January, Jane’s life changed when she was offered the opportunity to pursue her life-long dream of becoming an air hostess. Her dream could have possibly remained just that… a dream, but thanks to Marcus de Klerk, his colleagues and EPT Aviation Training, Jane received a bursary and her pre-course necessities such as medical examinations were covered. Jane took to the 6 week, Cabin Crew Members Licensing course and the Personal Career Development course, like a fish to water. “She was very excited about the courses and studied very hard to achieve good grades and was very helpful to the other students who struggled with the course”, says her housemother, Nicoli Muller. We are sure she picked up this character trait from YOU who helped raise her in partnership with her houseparents.
“Sjoe! Jane has made us proud. It is heart-warming to see a child reach her dream and want to make a success of her life regardless of her past. I hope she continues to grow and never stops dreaming”, says Nicoli. “I’ve been a housemother for 19 years at the Kempton East Satellite home and my role is to make sure that these children grow up to be upstanding members of society and become the best that they can be. With the support of You, the donor I can cater to their needs. Your investment continues even after they leave our little nest. It is a fulfilling job and one I’m glad I don’t have to do alone. I’m grateful to all the donors that work directly with our house and all those that contribute to the well-being of our children. You are changing lives!”, adds Nicoli.
Marc, a pilot at Mango Airlines got the ball rolling and his colleagues funded Jane’s medical exams, passport, clothing, accessories and pocket money for the duration of the training and for her first flight on 23 April 2019. Thank you to EPT Aviation Training for providing the funds to make Jane’s dream come true.
Don’t be surprised the next time you’re aboard a Mango Airline flight and it’s our girl, Jane, making sure you’re comfortable. Jane has started her internship with Mango Airlines and is very excited and can’t wait to one day travel the world.
Jane’s achievement is testament that with great support, our children can soar to heights unimaginable. Thank you for caring and being there for our children. It never goes unnoticed.
“Sjoe! Jane het ons so trots gemaak. Julle verander lewens!” voeg sy by.
