Remember Abraham Kriel Bambanani in your Will
Your chance to protect what matters to you
We all want to protect what matters to us – from our beloved family to dearly held beliefs.
Like you, we believe that no human being should have to experience pain and suffering. Every child deserves a fair chance in life, and it is our responsibility to ensure that their welfare is respected and protected.
Abraham Kriel Bambanani has cared for protected and developed children and youth since 4 September 1902.
Our objective is to care for, protect and empower orphaned and vulnerable children and youth in need of care. Our residential and community-based models enable these young people to develop to their fullest potential
At Abraham Kriel Bambanani (AKB) we care for children in Residential and Community care programmes. We educate toddlers, our own and from the surrounding community, at our Early Childhood Centre. We also train and develop young people (18+ years) at our Skills Training Centre.
Despite all the problems in South Africa, the children and youth of this country need care now
They grow and develop now and once it has passed, the optimal time for growth in the life a child does not come again. The lives of many are improved because our passion, our intervention, and our commitment to children bring about change.
Thank You
If you decide to make or update your Will and are kind enough to remember AKB, we thank you!
We hope that this guide will be helpful. But most of all we hope you will choose to show just how much children matter to you by remembering AKB with a gift in your Will.
We promise that your gift will be used effectively to assist vulnerable children and youth in our care – to uplift their lives and improve their welfare in whatever situation they find themselves in.
Frequently Asked Questions
A bequest is simply a gift of money or property left to a person or organisation after your death.
A specific sum of money
This is the simplest form of a bequest but makes no allowance for the effects of inflation or any changes in the value of your estate. If you choose this option, you need to review your will regularly to ensure the bequest remains relevant.
Specific items
Valuable items such as real estate, motor vehicles, antiques, artworks, jewellery, etc. may be bequeathed to an organisation such as the AKB.
A percentage of your estate
This ensures a fair distribution among all the beneficiaries, regardless of any influencing changes.
The residue of your estate
Whatever is left over after all taxes, liabilities and other bequests have been paid is known as the residue. You can bequeath the whole of the residue, or a percentage of it.
A life insurance policy
An existing policy, taken out years ago to safeguard a young family and no longer needed, can be ceded to AKB. Or you can take out a new policy naming us as the beneficiary.
Changes in tax law and your financial situation make it essential that you review your Will regularly. All that is required to update your Will is a simple Codicil, which is then attached to your Will. A Codicil is a legally binding instruction that effectively changes your Will without having to draft a new one, but it must be signed and witnessed with the same legal formalities as a Will.
Bankers, accountants, attorneys and financial consultants are skilled in drawing up Wills. We strongly recommend that you seek advice from a lawyer or financial advisor to ensure your wishes take effect. You can then relax, knowing that what matters to you is protected. In your Will, it is important that AKB is correctly identified and that your chosen gift is described in sufficient detail.
We recommend that you take the wording suggested below to your advisor for their information.
“I bequeath to the Abraham Kriel Bambanani NPC (AKB), registered NPO number 001-173, of corner Kamp & Marais Streets, Paarlshoop, Johannesburg, Gauteng, and I express the wish that such estate be used for the general purposes of AKB.”
It is preferable that your Will does not specify a restriction as to how the funds should be used. Instead, we ask that you allow AKB to decide how your gift will best protect children in need, at the time it is received. Although we have long-term plans in place, children’s welfare needs may change over time and it is important that we are able to protect those children that need us most.
If one particular aspect of AKB’s work means a great deal to you, please contact our Marketing Manager on 011-8393058 or at ers@abrahamkriel.org to discuss your gift.
