My name is Lebogang Stimane, a 21-year-old graduate from Zola 2, Soweto. I recently completed my Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the University of the Free State, graduating Cum Laude. This achievement means everything to me – not only because of the hard work it took, but because of how far I have come.

My journey was not easy, but it was made possible through the love, care, and unwavering support of Abraham Kriel Bambanani (AKB).

I became part of the AKB family in high school, around Grade 10, while attending Aurora Girls’ High School, where I later completed my matric in 2021. Coming from a disadvantaged background, there were times when even the basics felt uncertain. AKB stepped into my life at the exact moment I needed support the most.

They made sure I had food, toiletries, and all the school essentials I needed. Because of them, I could go to school with confidence and focus on my studies without constantly worrying about my next meal or basic needs. That kind of support changed everything for me.

What truly touched my heart is that AKB didn’t just provide for my physical needs – they cared for me emotionally and mentally too.

During my university years, I experienced moments of self-doubt and stress, like any student. I remember one particular night after writing a test I felt I had failed. I was overwhelmed and anxious, and at around 3 a.m, I called my social worker, Sis Zanele. Even at that hour, she answered. She listened as I cried, comforted me, and reminded me that I was capable. That moment stayed with me – it showed me that I was never alone.

Sis Inno has also been a constant pillar in my life. From the very beginning, she listened to my worries, my frustrations, and my dreams, always making me feel seen and heard. I will forever be grateful for her kindness and steady support.

I am equally thankful to Bhuti Sivumo, who stood by me during my gap year in 2022. There were times I felt lost and uncertain about my future, but he never allowed me to give up on myself. He encouraged me to apply to universities and to keep pushing forward. Because of his belief in me, I am where I am today.

With AKB’s support, I was able to transition from high school to university and succeed in my studies. The foundation they built in my life gave me the strength and confidence to keep going, even when things felt impossible.

Today, I stand as a graduate, filled with pride and gratitude. From a young girl in need of support to earning my degree with Cum Laude, this journey has shaped me into the strong, resilient person I am today.

AKB didn’t just support me – they helped me believe in myself. They gave me hope, and they helped me build a future I once only dreamed of.

Graduation day brought mixed emotions – a part of me is still in disbelief, while another part is overwhelmed with joy and pride. This is my first big achievement, and it means so much, especially considering where I come from.

I am proud. I am grateful. And I am just getting started. ❤️
